Who is your school counselor?
You should be asking "Hoosier school counselor?!" because your school counselor is definitely a HUGE IU fan!
Personal Information: Mrs. Jones is your new school counselor. Not only is she an IU fan, she is a wife [to Chris], mother [to Isaiah (24, a 2023 graduate of Hanover College and in his second year of med school), Caleb (21, a senior at IU in the Kelley School of Business), and Hannah (16, a 8sophomore at Paoli Jr/Sr High School)], and a dog mom [to Charlie, a seven-year-old German Shephard]. She LOVES to take pictures and put them into her scrapbook. She loves to read, especially realistic science fiction. She doesn't like to be outside very often but, when she does go, it is usually to take a walk or play with her dog. She enjoys "terrible" (according to her husband) television: Grey's Anatomy, the Chicago shows, The Kardashians and Ted Lasso (which is actually brilliant!). And, for a special night out, she thoroughly enjoys dinner out before seeing a musical or play, including: Oklahoma, Wicked, Rent, Chicago, etc. She thinks she is hilarious and a great dancer but her family does disagree with that assessment, so you will have to get to know her and find that out for yourself! Her Strengths: Her top five CliftonStrengths are: Strategic, Futuristic, Achiever, Learner and Activator--which are all pretty obvious once you get to know her! She is an organizer. She is a list-maker. She is a problem-solver. She loves to brainstorm and discuss ideas and to try new things (except new foods!). She is open to new ideas and better ways to do things. She is also a communicator--so you will get lots of emails or pulled down to her office or see her in the hallways! Her RIASEC Letters: SEC. She is Social (a helper) and that drives EVERYTHING she does at school and in life--she wants everyone to be better/get better/get what they want. She is Enterprising (a persuader) and that shows up in her love of discussing ideas and making things happen. She is Conventional (an organizer) which is evident if you look at her color-coded files (and closet at home), her bazillion spreadsheets, and the open tabs on her computer! Her Weaknesses: Remembering people's names is a struggle; she is better at remembering stories about people so when she can tie that to a name she does much better! She is always learning new things and figuring out better ways to help students BUT she will guarantee that if she doesn't know something she will find out! MAKE SURE that she writes what you need from her down because, along with names, she will forget to do something if it isn't on her To Do list! And, she enjoys hearing your ideas for how things can be improved or better, so make sure you let her know what you think--she can't always do what you would like but will definitely be open to hearing/using the ideas when she can! Professional Information: She taught journalism and English 7-12 at Paoli Jr./Sr. High School for five years and 7th-8th grade Language Arts at Scottsburg Middle School for four years--so a great resource if you need someone to proofread a paper or college application! She was the 9th-10th grade counselor at Eastern High School (in Pekin) for nine years, and then she spent the last six at the elementary school in East Washington district--so she is a great person to talk to or to listen if you need to talk because she understands where kids of all ages are coming from! She just completed her second year at OHS, so she is also figuring out how she can better serve students/families here! Her Favorite Word: YET. When we are learning new things, we AREN'T good at them or we DON'T know...YET. But the more we do it, the more we practice, the better we get until we DO KNOW how to do it or the answer! YET is the most important word you can add to your daily vocabulary! |
